Welcome to karlfridolf.se! My name is Karl Fridolf, and I'm a fire and risk consultant at WSP Sweden. This page primarily consists of information related to my field of work, in particular life safety, evacuation and human behaviour in fire. In general, I communicate in English, but some blog posts and other information is written mainly for my Swedish visitors.

Me, myself and I

I'm a Fire Protection Engineer and a Civil Engineer in Risk Managament and Safety Engineering. In 2011, I initiated my postgraduate studies in Fire Safety Engineering at Lund University. Within my research, I focused on human behavior in fire, with a particular focus on evacuation of underground transportation systems, e.g., metro systems, rail tunnels, and road tunnels. On June 12, 2015, I succesfully defended my thesis Rail Tunnel Evacuation. The research results have later been highlighted, both nationally and internationally, and I've received numerous rewards for my contribution to the field. Since March 2016, I'm employed as a fire and risk consultant at WSP Sweden. In my role, I contribute within fire and risk projects in general, and with my knowledge and experience about evacuation in particular.

Utrymningsteori

Under våren 2014 publicerade jag en serie texter (totalt sex) i syfte att öka förståelsen för hur människor agerar i händelse av bränder och att underlätta utnyttjandet av denna information vid byggnadsteknisk projektering. Texterna syftade också till att medvetengöra om de förenklingar som görs vid modellering av utrymningsförlopp. Ursprungligen var texterna avsedda för Briab - Brand & Riskingenjörerna AB, närmare bestämt deras tekniska vägledning om utrymningsdimensionering.

Vid publiceringen av texterna på min hemsida fick de stor uppmärksamhet, och spreds även till personer som inte dagligen arbetar med brandsäkerhet eller byggnadstekniskt brandskydd. För att underlätta åtkomsten till texterna har jag därför valt att ägna dem en egen sektion på min hemsida. De ursprunliga inläggen kan numera enkelt nås via länkarna nedan.
